Mauro G. Tucci is currently serving his seventh term on the Township of Nutley Board of Commissioners and previously served from February-May 2012 and May 2020-2022 as Mayor. Elected in May 2000, he is currently the Director of Parks and Public Property.

Mauro G. Tucci is an experienced public servant who has served on the Nutley Board of Commissioners since 2000.  Under his direction, the Parks & Public Property Department has secured over 6.1 million dollars in grants and low interest loans to make numerous improvements to virtually every park and athletic field within the 110-acre Nutley Park system. One of the standout projects that was completed during his tenure was the total reconstruction of Owens Field which included installation of artificial turf on the multi-purpose field and baseball diamonds, construction of a new walking track, new bleachers and a spectator pavilion.  Recently, six new pickle ball courts were added, along with two new tennis courts, and Owens Soccer rink has been resurfaced.  Another important ongoing initiative is the flood mitigation project in Memorial Park I, where efforts are underway to clean the pond of all debris and install valves and a flood gate to prevent water overflow.  One project close to Mauro’s heart was the installation of both handicapped and wheelchair-accessible swings in the parks, demonstrating his commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all residents can enjoy Nutley’s recreational spaces. The township’s recreational programs have expanded and serve a diverse age range from toddler to senior citizens.  With over 125 different programs available, there are opportunities for all residents to engage in healthy, community-building activities.

Always mindful of the impact of taxes on our residents and merchants the Commissioner has returned over 8.1 million dollars to the township treasury in budgeted unexpended funds, spending only what is absolutely necessary.

A graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Urban Studies, Mauro’s professional background is community planning and public administration. He is currently the CEO of Northwest Essex Community Healthcare Network which provides counseling, job training and a therapeutic school for the mentally and physically challenged. Mauro is also a local businessman at Nutley Pool and Spa, specializing in swimming pools and spas. He has previously served as Director of the Essex County Division of Housing and Community Development, as Director of Montclair Public Works, Township Administrator in Bloomfield and Township Manager in Belleville.

Volunteer service has always been an important part of Mauro’s life. In the past he helped raise over $1,450,000.00 to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  In 2024 Mauro spearheaded the creation of the Greater Nutley Cancer Foundation that was established to provide support to cancer survivors and their families in Nutley and others with a Nutley association.  Since its creation the foundation has raised $38,000.00.   He has also been the Chairman of the Suburban Metro Joint Insurance Fund for the past 20 years which manages insurance and reduces costs for thirteen municipal bodies, including Nutley. When he served as the Chair of the Essex County Utilities Authority, Mauro saved several million dollars for Essex County residents by renegotiating waste disposal contracts. In the past he has also served on the Nutley Shade Tree Commission and as co-chair of the Nutley Family Service Bureau Charity Ball. Mauro is a member of several local organizations, including Nutley Unico, the Nutley Irish American Alliance, the Nutley Chamber of Commerce, Nutley Elks, the Knights of Columbus, Kingsland Manor Trust, the Van Riper Trust and the Nutley Third Half Club.

Mauro and his wife Linda have four grown children-all raised and educated in Nutley and eleven grandchildren.
