Annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Scheduled for Sunday, December 5th

Mayor Mauro G. Tucci and the Nutley Board of Commissioners will host Nutley’s Annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. on Franklin Avenue between Chestnut Street and Church Street.  The entire community is invited to attend this official kick off of the Holiday Season.  “This event expresses everything that Nutley truly stands for: family , friends,  unity and of course celebrating the traditions of the season” stated Mayor Tucci.

The ceremony will begin with the big man himself, Santa Claus entering in style on a beautiful holiday float.  Children will be given bells to ring as Santa makes his grand entrance in front of the Nutley Oval! Don’t forget to bring your cameras to snap a photo with Santa.  Children are also encouraged to bring their letters to Santa so they can place them in Santa’s Mailbox.

This signature holiday event has been expanded to feature some new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy!  The addition of a synthetic ice rink will bring a different kind of energy, as well as a safe and enjoyable holiday past time to Franklin Ave for residents to enjoy.  Skates will be provided for this activity, please do not bring your own.  

Old-fashioned Horse and Carriage rides will be available on Booth Drive. A gourmet coffee truck will give off the aroma of peppermint and pumpkin lattes for all to enjoy.  A life-sized blow up snow globe will be available for residents to take photos inside while the sounds of Holiday music presented by DJMC Entertainment fills the air.

Carrying on the holiday tradition, the celebration will include live entertainment from local musical groups approximately every 15 to 20 minutes, including the John H. Walker Middle School Concert Choir NHS Strings, NHS Concert Choir, John H. Walker Middle School Jazz, NHS Chamber Singers and the NHS Brass Ensemble .  These groups will provide a medley of holiday music sure to please all in attendance. Please note: Face masks are required indoors.

Other activities including face painting, fabulous food items, holiday craft sales and more will be available to get residents in the holiday spirit!

The lighting of the Holiday Tree will take place at 6:00 p.m.  At the conclusion of the celebration, all are invited to visit the Live Nativity at the Vincent United Methodist Church from 6pm to 6:45pm, with performances every 20 minutes.
