Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo sent out a Township notification Tuesday advising residents of an incident that was taking place at the Nutley Public Library.
Det. Capt. Green received information that two individuals entered the Library and one of them made threats. Police secured the area and assured that everyone was relocated to a safe area.
The streets were blocked causing traffic congestion and widespread concern by parents picking children from school.
A swift investigation, with Library and School Officials was conducted, which identified two juveniles. One was charged with creating public alarms and released to his parents, while the other is pending.
Police Chief Strumolo said that at no time was anyone in danger, and that these threats were unsupported. He said that we take every threat or suspicious incident very seriously. We make every effort to first safeguard the public, then inform the community as quickly as possible to help alleviate fear and concern.
Director Petracco commended the Department for its quick response and thorough investigation.
