Mayor Dr. Joseph Scarpelli has announced that the Township of Nutley Department of Public Works (DPW) will be conducting “Shredding Day” this Saturday, April 13, 2024. The event will allow residents to safely destroy sensitive material while also recycling.
“The aim of ‘Shredding Day’ is to combat identity theft and promote household safety,” Mayor Scarpelli says. “I encourage residents to bring their unwanted documents not only to protect their personal information, but also to declutter their homes and lessen the risk of potential fire hazards.”
Suggested items to shred include: bank statements that are at least one year old and do not contain tax-related information; pay stubs (only after you receive your W-2); credit card applications; or documents that contain your Social Security and other account numbers, password/PIN information, your birth date, private contact information and signature.
Cars will enter Municipal Parking Lot 7 behind Bella Luce and proceed to Parking Lot 9 next to the former Ciccolini’s between the hours of 10am to 2pm or until the trucks are full.
Residents will be required to stay in their car and open their trunk or truck bed to allow DPW staff access to their documents. Residents will be limited to 5 boxes or bags for shredding.
“The DPW will be out in force,” the Mayor adds. “I invite everyone to come down and let us help you.”
