The Township of Nutley celebrated its Annual May Day Celebration on Sunday, May 5, 2024. This annual event has become a highly anticipated tradition for over 25 years amongst the senior citizen community. Seniors enjoyed a buffet luncheon as well as live entertainment at the Parks and Recreation Department. In an impressive turnout, the event hosted its largest crowd to date. It was a beautiful afternoon that sparked a beacon of light on an otherwise rainy day, smiles and dancing were present throughout the event.
“This day is set aside to celebrate and honor the many contributions Nutley’s Senior Community adds to our township. They hold the wisdom and experience that promote a positive attitude toward aging and recognize the active, healthy lives many older residents lead,” Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci said.
Nutley High School volunteers helped distribute food and danced alongside the seniors, making for a wonderful time in bringing these two generations together. Members of the theater program performed Bruno Mars’s “Just the Way you Are.” Accompanied with applause and singing from the crowd, the group was warmly welcomed as a special addition to the day’s festivities.
In Commissioner Tucci’s continued commitment to the Senior Community he expressed his gratitude in this group’s contribution to making Nutley the amazing township it is. “Our job is to take care of you,” he stated. “You’ve taken care of us and now it's our turn. Whatever you need and whatever you want, let us know. No one is as dedicated to our seniors like your township government is. We’re here for you.”
The event concluded with giveaways generously donated by various Nutley businesses, encouraging residents to shop local.
“We encourage our seniors to stay active and look forward to seeing you at the next event,” stated Tucci.
