Township of Nutley Public Works Department Commissioner Joseph P. Scarpelli is joining the American Public Works Association (APWA) in celebrating National Public Works Week, May 19-25.
National Public Works Week shines a spotlight on the way public works professionals advance our quality of life, whether as a first responder to an electricity outage, regular waste pickup, or a myriad of other ways they silently serve their communities.
“A lot of what a public works department gets taken for granted,” the Commissioner says, “so it’s great to see a national celebration shine a light on the many essential things we do.”
Public works professionals advance the quality of life by providing an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment, public buildings and spaces, parks and grounds, emergency management and first response, solid waste, and right-of-way management. They are what make our communities dynamic places to live and work.
“My family has spent decades in public works,” Scarpelli adds. “I am very proud of my staff and our township’s excellent reputation. It’s an honor for all of us to be a part of National Public Works Week.”
