Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci Announces Spring 2025 Recreation Sports Programs

Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci and the Department of Parks and Recreation are excited to announce that registration is opening for our Spring 2025 Recreation Sports Programs! We are offering a variety of activities for children of all ages to stay active, develop new skills, and have fun.

Volunteer Coaches Needed!
Many of our programs rely on the dedication of volunteer coaches. If you are interested in coaching, please indicate this on your child’s registration form. All coaches must be Rutgers Certified and fingerprinted.

Girls Flag Football (Grades 1-8) ** NEW **

Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports, and we are thrilled to introduce a girls-only league! This program provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where young female athletes can develop skills, build confidence, and enjoy friendly competition in a non-contact setting.

  • Practices held during the week at the coach’s discretion
  • Mouthpieces are required
  • Each team will be provided with football t-shirts, flag belts and footballs.

Grades 1 & 2  -  Grades 3 & 4  -  Grades 5 & 6  -  Grades 7 & 8

Boys Flag Football (Grades 1-4)

This program is designed to introduce young athletes to football while emphasizing teamwork, participation, and sportsmanship. Players will experience continuous action in a fun and non-contact setting.

  • Practices held during the week at the coach’s discretion
  • Mouthpieces are required
  • Each team will be provided with football t-shirts, flag belts and footballs.

Pre T-Ball (For Kindergarten in Sept. 2025)

A fun introduction to T-Ball for children entering kindergarten in Fall 2025. This non-competitive program teaches the fundamentals of the game while helping kids develop social and athletic skills.

Track & Field (Grades 3-8)

This traveling sport gives young athletes the opportunity to compete in dashes, distance runs, relays, long jump, and turbo javelin. Practices and home meets will be held at DeMuro Park. A great way to stay active and build endurance!

Peanut Soccer (Ages 3-6)

A non-competitive program designed to introduce Nutley’s youngest players to soccer! With a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, kids will develop basic soccer skills through interactive games and activities. Sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at Msgr. Owens Park Mini Turf.
