Nutley Update on COVID-19
The Township of Nutley is providing an update to the community on several important matters, including:
- Additional known COVID-19 cases and deaths
- Vote by Mail Ballots are arriving in the mail. Don’t forget to vote by May 12th.
- Emergency food box distribution on Friday, April 24th (quantities are limited, first-come, first-served)
In addition, we remind residents to stay at home and to observe social distancing if you must go outside.
New Known Cases
The Township of Nutley announced an additional 13 new known cases of COVID-19, bringing the Township total known cases to 366 and 28 deaths.
The Board of Commissioners thoughts and prayers go out to all of the deceased and their families. Flags in Nutley and across the state have been lowered to half-staff in honor of all we have lost. No one will be forgotten.
The Nutley Health Department is working diligently to track any interactions the individuals who tested positive have had with residents, and they will ensure that anyone at risk of exposure is provided with all of the information necessary, including being tested themselves if appropriate.
Nutley Municipal Commissioners Election
Governor Murphy signed Executive Order #105, on March 19, 2020, ordering that elections including our Municipal Election scheduled for May 12, 2020 shall be conducted solely by VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT.
As such, there will NOT be any polling locations open on May 12, 2020. You will receive your vote by mail ballot on or about April 21st. You can vote anytime once you receive your ballot through May 12, 2020.
All registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail.
- Once you receive the ballot, carefully read and follow the instructions. Postage is prepaid.
- You can vote for up to 5 candidates for the Board of Commissioners.
- Be sure to sign and date your ballot where indicated.
- Mail your voted ballot back in the return envelope provided. Your ballot must be postmarked by May 12th.

Drive Thru Emergency Food Box Distribution
When: Friday, April 24th at 11:00am – first-come, first-served until supplies last
Where: Meadowlands YMCA, 390 Murray Hill Parkway, East Rutherford
Grab-and-go emergency food boxes will be distributed to families to assist
those impacted by the coronavirus crisis. Each box supplies approximately 40 meals and includes nonperishable proteins, vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, and snack items (one box per family).
Quantities are limited. Boxes will be distributed first-come, first-served. No registration is required.
To adhere to the social distancing guidelines, cars will line up and be loaded by staff. Please allow room in your car for the box.
Department of Public Works
The following DPW events have been cancelled due to the pandemic:
- Electronics Recycling Day - April 25th
Parking meter enforcement is suspended until further notice. Please support our local businesses!
Health Department Message
Please make every attempt to check in on elderly and/or disabled neighbors. If you are aware of anyone that needs food and/or supplies, please contact the Department of Public Affairs at 973-284-4976.
